I’m an MSc (Marine Biology) student in the Department of Biodiversity and Conservation Biology at UWC. My project is centered on observations on the identity of holopelagic Discomedusae around Africa and explores links with Europe. This project involves a great deal of understanding and extensive literature review on the topic of genetic structure of marine populations, population connectivity, and morphometric analysis on scyphozoan species.

I found Marine Biology as a very stimulating and challenging discipline. However, I am very fascinated by working on jellyfish (Scyphozoans). I believe that my strong educational background in this discipline makes an appropriate and competent candidate and it has sharpened my understanding of the concept of Scyphozoa.

I am currently a practical demonstrator for undergrads and I have worked during my undergraduate degree as a research assistant for SANBI’s Post-doctoral Researcher monitoring field experiments and data collection in the field. Moreover, I have completed a 12 months NRF internship at the University of the Western Cape, during which I co-authored a published commentary paper - aiming at understanding the nature of international collaboration in the Benguela upwelling region.
