Introduce yourself!

Thanks! Yes… I knew there would be some kind of tutorials or something around just never had the time to dig around. Your course is perfect for beginners!

Greetings all the way from Malaysia,

First of all, I would like to thank Lucy for giving us the opportunity to join this GIS beginner course for FREE. It was a rare opportunity for us to have a FREE course with flexible time to learn.

I have completed my undergraduate study in Sarawak and did research involving House Rat and Fake predator cue. It was a fun and fruitful experience to do such project in my final year. After I graduated, I landed a job in WWF and am now involved in an atlas project. GIS is indeed an important tool for us to use in the conservation field especially in the atlas project and I do enjoy mapping out the species distribution map.

I am an amateur wildlife photographer and I usually spend my weekends (before lockdown) out in nature, such as in the forest, hill, beach or island. I enjoyed the wonder of nature which helped me to relax and snapping some photos of wildlife (mostly birds) makes my weekends more memorable (as you can show off to someone the pictures you got).

I couldn’t wait to expand my skills and knowledge in GIS!

Cheers,

Hello, I am Rachael Abulu, an environmental biologist and a graduate student (MSc Geography) at York University (meant to start Fall 2021). I’m interested in learning more about GIS and using the knowledge gained in spatial data analysis and biodiversity monitoring. I have little or no knowledge on the subject and I am willing and determined to learn as much as I can from this course and collaborate with fellow conservationalists. Thank you for the opportunity VerdantLearn!

Hi everyone,
I am Jemmy from Zanzibar, a young holding a bachelor degree of Aquacuture, I would love to study this course knowing it could help on conservation projects that are of my intereset, to help the communities, ciuntry and the global as whole.

Hi there! I am Io and am currently a student at the Department of Geography, University of the Aegean. I find GIS to be a powerful tool that can be used in every science and also a great way to be creative! As I soon will be completing my studies, I would like to know other techniques that I could implement to make my point clearer when using a map.
I relax by taking my dog for a walk or just by being in nature.
Looking forward to learning new things!
Io :earth_africa:

Hello there,

I´m Paula, a biologist who studies a master in conservation and biodiversity in Seville (Spain). My main interest is the evolution and conservation of birds. I have used Qgis sometime but I´m still a beginner, I hope to learn a lot in this course.

Hello everyone,

I’m from Cambodia. I work for the wildlife conservation field. Nowadays, I working on protected areas that focus on the conservation of all wildlife and bird species.

Currently, I worked in Bengal Florican that has only three countries like India, Nepal, and Cambodia. Besides this, I work for awareness-raising on bird species to community members and the student to promoting the conservation to them.

Moreover, I work for zoning demarcation in protected areas to identify the individual zones like core zone, conservation zone, sustainable use zone, and community zones as well. So, I am a beginner in GIS, I look forward to learning practical skills and techniques which able me to produce a good map and analysts the data.

Best regards

Hi everybody,

My name is Louisan and I am from the Netherlands. In 2014 I finished my bachelor Animal Management with a minor in Wildlife. Unfortunately after 2016 I have been out of the field, but now since last month I am working as junior ecologist. We are working with spatial data and maps and this course will hopefully help me to freshen up my knowledge and skills on QGIS.

I wish the best to everybody!

Louisan

my name is olalekan am a gis student at the federal university of technology akure. whats motivates me is the need to create impact in my world using GIS.

Hello Silas, great to have you here too! Hope I.T is going on fine? I wish you all the best.

Hello everyone,

I studied Biology in the University of Sevilla (Spain) and a master about management and conservation of natural resourses. I’m interested in wildlife and biodiversity conservation, among other areas as climate change, evolution, genetics and ecology. Currently, I’m studying to be a civil servant in the field of environmental surveillance and protection. In my free time I enjoy playing instruments or exercicing; but overall I’m passionate about learning new things.

I worked with QGIS some time ago, and now I’d like to learn how to use this tool focusing on conservation.

Hi there Paula! :raised_hand: Contact me if there’s anything you need :sunflower:

Thanks for this! The trouble I had was the GPS was a track and I wanted the co-ordinate points in order to see clusters, but I will have another go!

Hello,
I’m from Malaysia. I have finished my bachelor degree of Zoology. I am very eager to study more about GIS and improve my skills with related software. Thank you Lucy for this opportunity.

Hello everyone,

I’m Julius from Malaysia. I’m pursuing my Master of Zoology. I heard that QGIS is a very powerful tool to compose many great maps and analyse spatial data. However, I’m still a newbie and merely can create a simple maps (using available open maps) with some plot coordinate. With the opportunities given by you, Lucy, I hope that I can learn many useful QGIS functions.

Hi everyone
I’m Sichelesile, I am a GIS specialist at Painted Dog, Zimbabwe, We are conserving painted dogs (Lycaon pictus) which are endangered, We use GIS to determine movement patterns, distribution and home ranges of painted dogs. I have experience with QGIS.
I am looking forward to recap and learn new skills.

Hi everyone, I am a newbie here my name is LINDSY MAE SULA-SULA, from Philippines. I am a Science teacher taking up the course in BSE Physics and I am also very interested in terms of our environment. I am also taking my Masters of Science Teaching Science Education. With this opportunity, I hope that I can be able to fulfill this and learn more with the use of QGIS function. Thank you.

Hi everyone my name is Celukuthula Mbuyisa. I have Diploma in Nature Conservation. Currently I’m employed as environmental monitor. I have experience in field work. I work in protected areas unit in the west of Johannesburg in a nature reserve set up. This is my first time learning about Gis of which I’m looking forward to it.This will help to to advance my skills in Gis.

Hi,
I am Soe Moe Htwe. I am from Myanmar. I am currently working at Myanmar Costal Conservation Lab. Before, I worked as Researcher on land issues in Myanmar. I got to know GIS since then, but I have little chance to attend the training or work on it. First of all, thanks for providing such kind of training and glad to meet you all. Currently, I am working for conservation of marine mammals for the Gulf of Mottama. We have Facebook page and do the surfing on Facebook for stranding data to upload how much of marine mammals stranding annually. I want to show it stranding map by using GIS. I hope that I will learn a lot from here.
Thanks.
