Hi everyone!
Super late to start this course but so grateful still have time until the of July! I am Akbar from Indonesia, currently junior teaching staff at Universitas Gadjah Mada Indonesia. I am really into landscape Mozaic and reef research. Hope I can learn many GIS stuff here, also have some connections!
Hello, my name is Andreas Bandang Hardian from Indonesia. At the moment, I am working in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Universitas Brawijaya and as voluntary veterinarian in Wildlife Rescue Centre Jogja. I am an advisor of our research group in our centre and assist in release procedure as well as postrelease and monitoring program which really needs mapping method to record the animal movement in the wild.
I am beginner of using QGIS and look forward to learning from you. Nice to meet you all!
Hello everyone!
It is a timely help to be given this opportunity to learn about GIS mapping for conservation. I just graduated with my Ph.D. Biology program and am currently a newly hired science faculty and researcher in one of the institutions in my place.
My research focused on the systematics and taxonomy of freshwater crabs in Mindanao Island, Philippines. I did the morphological and molecular analysis on the collected specimens to identify and validate the freshwater crab species. I also write on the description of the species and provided data on their present distribution by localities.
I have data on their GIS where the specimens were collected, however, I do not have the knowledge and the skill to plot the collection points as their distribution.
With this course, I will surely be helped on how I can utilize my available data and provide better visualization of the distribution of freshwater crab species in Mindanao Island. This data will serve as a good basis for conservation action and provide information to the policymakers on how to protect these understudied yet vulnerable species in the country.
Happy learning to everyone!
Hi all! Coming in very late to start this course but it happens, haha. I’m Eden, my pronouns are they/them/themself, and I live in England. I want to work in wild mammal research as part of conservation. I have a degree in Biological Sciences but lacking practical experience, I can’t fill that gap due to COVID but I can fill other skills gaps so I decided to try this course as I see GIS coming up on job adverts.
I love dancing, hot chocolates, and sunsets
Hi Natasha, I’m late too and joined the course to get that skill ticked off on my CV. What are you studying for your postdoc?
Hi Lito, I also have a Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences!
