Hy,
I am Deborah Elesie, I am a forester volunteering in the environmental space, I advocate for SDG 13&15 goals and also a Climate Reality Leader trained in August 2020 by the former vice president of America Mr. Al Gore.
I am here to learn as I plan to embark an MSc in Forest Conservation and wildlife.
Unique for sure! We loved it there! Hoping to make it back someday. We did some WOOFing/work for accommodation & food the first six months (one of which was a really remote located that we got to ride in a helicopter to get to which was very cool). We worked on a dairy farm for the rest of it which was nice as they provided housing at no cost. Other than that we did Hobbiton, lots of backpacking/hiking, Milford Sound & Doubtful Sound, Stewart Island, Speights Brewery Tour (haha!), whale watching in Kaikoura. It was all really good, but still so much that we missed out on! Some of our favorite hikes were up the Huxley Valley near Lake Oahu to Broderick Hut and Nelson Lakes up to the Hopeless Hut. I’m glad I’m not the only one that loves those cheeky little birds!
Are you living there long term or on a working holiday as well?

My name is Joe Altobelli and I am a PhD candidate at the University of Otago in New Zealand. My thesis focuses on the habitat use and behavior of New Zealand native frogs. I have had some experience in the past using GIS but it has now been many years and I could really use a refresher!
I’m Akintola Mercy Onaopemipo, currently in 300L schooling in the giant country of Africa NIGERIA. Studying Remote sensing and GIS.
In 2017, i started learning more about GIS and it has been fun and amazing, here i am to contribute and learn more from the professional bodies.
Hi there, my name is Linda Rulumeni based in Makhanda in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. I am a Rhodes University BSc. I am very passion about Natural Science and Technology so the combination of the two in GIS is just amazing for me.
I really enjoy learning new things and I hope this course will benefit me greatly (I’M A VERY EXCITED BEGINNER!!!).
Hello! My name is Leslie. I am certified in GIS and looking for a GIS job. I’m excited to learn QGIS and have a lot of interest in conservation. Looking forward to this course!
Hi Maurice, it’s wonderful to see a brother on the forum. Rwanda is such a lovely country. I lived in Kigali for 4years, teaching at UR-CST and also consulting in property valuation. I’m happy to link up and explore collaborations where possible.
I am Sheila Ivy Baylon Abarico, a fourth year student taking up Bachelor of Science in Biology at the Surigao Del Sur State University. If your are asking why I am here? Simply, I would like to learn about GIS, since it is my first time to enrolled this kind of online course and I am really looking forward for a great deal opportunity to be knowledgeable to this kind of platform that may enhance my practical skills and techniques that will enable myself to produce good projects.
I am really excited to learn with and from you all.
I am Lito M. Bagona, currently studying Bachelor of Science in Biology. I lived in the Philippines specifically in Mindanao, province of Surigao del Sur. This find me interesting to learn more about QGIS.
I am Aleiradel T. Hernandez. I am currently finishing my Bachelor’s degree in Biology in Surigao Del Sur, Philippines. I am very much interested in learning about the QGIS software as I think it would be a useful skill for my thesis project on the species diversity of Ocypodinae on our local beaches and I am hoping that the knowledge I will gain from this experience would be helpful for my chosen career path as well.
Hello everyone, I am Philomina Kika, a gradaute of Animal and Environmental biology and a masters degree holder in Environmental Management and Hydrobiology and Fisheries. Although i am new to QGIS, i have worked with ArcGis before.
I am therefore very interested in learning this course considering the free acess to QGIS unlike the ArcGIS, I hope I will be able to meet up.
Hi There,
I did BSc Environmental Studies and also completed a BSc Honours degree in Environmental Sciences. Over the years, I have worked within the environmental field in both private and public sector. I have experience in Facilitation, Coordination, Project management, Freshwater ecology, waste management, environmental law and environmental management as a whole. Currently I am working in a government sector and I enrolled on this course to improve my skills and knowledge, and to be able to apply GIS within the work place.
Hello, Apologies for the late introduction. My name is Ana María Herrera. I’m a conservation biologist from Colombia. I’m interested to learn how to use GIS, and specially QGIS. My professional background is at conservation projects and ecological and social monitoring, and I think learning QGIS is a great opportunity for my academic and professional outlook.
I am Maria Estefania Lopez, I am a biologist from Colombia. I worked with biological collections in the past, and I am very interested in understanding how these resources can be used to understand the biodiversity on our planet.
In the past, for my fieldwork, I collected in the past ants from Malpelo to compare with past collections of the same area, and also looking for differences between populations of the same island and other species of the same genera.
I’m a bit late to join, but I am very eager to complete this course as I believe GIS is a valuable tool in research and an important skill sought out by job creators. I am a postdoc in Zoology currently trying to expand my skillset.
