Module 2 assignment: Representing data

I enjoyed reorganizing and comparing the different layers on this project although I am unsure of the best way to organize them for the most impact - I just went ahead with a screenshot that displayed all the layers that we added in this module. There was an option to add the openstreetmap all as one layer and I wasn’t sure whether to do that or not so I added them as separate layers…not sure if that was the right choice!

As other have noted, I also found the instructions a bit vague. Sometimes I wasn’t clear on whether I needed to add as vector layer vs a raster layer. It helped for me to question what kind of data we were trying to display and relating it back to the differences discussed between vector and raster data earlier in the module. I also think that it would have been helpful to provide a suggestion as to the order layer as there was in the previous module.

This module helped me work towards my goal of being able to create, edit, and visualize data within QGIS. My goal is fairly basic as I am not a part of a current project nor do I have my own data to work with. Just looking for a refresher on my GIS knowledge from my one course in university. It was also nice to find some resources for data sets like park boundaries, roads, land cover, etc. I have bookmarked these for future reference.

So amazing to work with different layers in this chapter. The websites where we can get different spatial data for my own project were very useful.

Adding layer of .vtr is perfectly fitted in your map

Sorry for answering too late. Some of the files come in different formats, you have to choose the correct one indicated in the instructions. Sometimes I have had problems with the save and upload folders. Try to introduce them from the user folder, and selecting the correct type of file for both uploading in Qgis, and the file itself. Good luck with that!

Thanks you, it´s a great idea. I´ll try next time.

@Hannah Layers and resolutions can be clearly differentiated, so it’s a great job.

its okk, i appreciate your response and suggestion…thanku so much

The vector symbology task was interesting and in the early stage I couldn’t understand how to do it, finally I found the way to do.

Hi Uma,
You have done a great job and your modification were nice.

Please l need help to explain this pop up as l tried to do my assignment @JonathanGatward.
Though my assignment is still in progress.
Thanks in anticipation.

In module 2, i have learned that it is important to play around and arrange your layers to show your data. I also now have a better understanding of the Vector and Raster difference and also did some extra homework on it.

Good day, Raini,

Wow I like the look of you map thus far. Playing with the order of the layers make it interesting. Hope you enjoying the course.

Regards. Heinrich.

HI @Kingsleychekwube ,
Could you perhaps translate the main heading either side of the “1.5” into English ?
It looks as though it is relating to may be the land use layer and may just be a notification about the layer, its copyright notices or its update.
Thanks
Jonathan

I have managed to have create this map. However, l had challenges on understanding the instruction which stated " open street map fine grain vector data: add using Add vector layer". Am not sure if l did it correctly. Have noted that he Copernicus land cover raster layer has more detail than the DCW land cover raster layer. I can now differentiate between the raster and vector models.

Your map looks well presentable with all the required layers. I noted that you have more layers than mine. For sure there is somewhere l got wrong. I did not understand the instruction that required me to “add open street map fine grain vector data layer”. How did you tackle this instruction. Am noticing that there is that upward black line, is it coming from the open street map road line layer? How did you do it?

Hi, I’ really not sure. I simply followed the instructions

It was a clear description between the different types of layers which I have managed to now differentiate on my own. Found difficulty in organising the layers to show the detail but finally managed to do so. Good and clear exercise!

It took me a while to finish this task.
Module 2 was challenging and interesting, the order of the layers is important for the visibility of the map. It was fun changing the symbiology to make my output presentable. I do hope that there will be a clear step by step of adding layers in QGSIS.

module 2 assignment: representing data.

I now understand better “rater and vector” data layers and arranging layers on the map.

following these instructions is much simple and just needs patience and more work to someone like me whom is the first time to use QGIS.

I’m enjoying myself doing this. Although sometimes I get confused (don’t worry, it’s my problem), I am grateful that my friends willing to explain it to me.
